Most of the time I'm using my laptop connected to AC power. This will, for several reasons, shorten the battery's lifetime: Heat from the running computer, constant loading and, more importantly, an internal cycle counter. The best way to increase  battery life is to disconnect it when it is not used and thus not needed. After expiration of warranty period I soldered an 8-pole DIP switch between the leads. Be very careful. Do not short-circuit the battery cables while soldering. So I now can connect or disconnect the battery from outside.
